Your first reformer class, step by step

What the springs do, where to put your feet and why nobody will laugh at you. Everything we wish we had known before our first class.

Feet in grip socks resting on the footbar of an oak reformer.

The reformer looks like a strange bed with springs. It is, and that is the point.

The springs

Colored springs under the carriage add resistance. More springs are not always harder: for many core exercises, fewer springs means less support and more work.

Your feet

Most classes start with footwork, your feet on the bar at the end. Keep your heels level and your knees soft.

Ask anything

Your instructor expects questions. With nine people at most, there is time to answer every one.
